How to play

Goal

Pilot a 3D racing drone through gates and rings at treetop height, from the Laurentians in autumn to the wildest worlds. Fly through the gates in order, as fast as you can, without clipping anything. Treetop Rush can be played alone (campaign, free flight, practice, races, judged choreographies, challenges and garage), in a race against the AI, or online against one to three friends.

Three ways to play

  • Solo: the game with its menus (the free preview, or the whole game with the Winning Hand Pass). Your progress (stages cleared, stars, maple leaves, drone parts, pilots, records, ghosts and settings) is saved automatically on this device between visits. In no-trace mode nothing is written: it only lasts for the visit.
  • Race against the AI (Winning Hand Pass): one to five pilots from Dévale (Denis the Rookie, Granny Turbo, Ti-Guy, The Purist, The Goat, Kayla, The Rocket, The Sasquatch), each with their own personality, on five levels. They are flown by a real neural network trained on the game’s physics and never cheat: same drone, same physics, same course as you, no hidden shortcut.
  • Online (Winning Hand Pass): two to four players on the same stage. The start is given when everyone is ready. Drones never touch and everyone has their own camera.

Controls

  • Touch: two sticks under your thumbs (left: climb, descend and turn; right: forward and strafe), or the one-hand mode in the settings.
  • Keyboard: arrows to move forward and turn, W or Space to climb, S or Shift to descend, A and D to strafe, V to change the view, R to respawn, P or Esc to pause.
  • Gamepad: left stick for throttle and yaw, right stick for pitch and roll.
  • Three flight modes: Assisted (default: the drone holds its altitude and aims at the next gate), Angle (stabilized) and Acro (for experts). Four views: chase, FPV goggles, side and top.

The race

  • Gates are flown in order; a gate passed close to its centre is a perfect gate. A missed gate must be flown again.
  • A crash makes the drone bounce and spin, without damage. If it gets stuck or flipped, it respawns at the last gate passed (there is also a respawn button).
  • Online, the first to finish wins; the others are ranked by finishing time. A player who leaves, or who does not finish within 75 seconds of the first finisher, is ranked as did not finish. The ranking is the same for every player.
  • Choreography duel: during the allotted time, string tricks together (flip, barrel roll, loop, dive, treetop skim...). Three judges from Dévale rate it out of 10; the best total wins.

Access: featured game

Treetop Rush is a featured game on Ludo Genie, included with the Winning Hand Pass; Ludo Tokens do not apply to it. The free preview is open to everyone, any time, including during the free trial and the bonus period: the whole flight school (10 lessons), free flight in 3 worlds (the Laurentians, the Deep Sea and Neon City) and the first 3 stages of the Laurentians campaign. The free trial and the bonus period include this preview only.

The Winning Hand annual Pass unlocks the whole game, with no limits: the full campaign (13 worlds, 156 stages), races against the AI, choreography, judges and duels, challenges, the stage of the day and stage codes, online races with friends and ghosts, the full garage, all 21 pilots and free flight in all 13 worlds. In the game, everything reserved shows a gold padlock; tap it to see everything the game has to offer. The progress you make in the preview is kept just as it is, and if you get the Winning Hand Pass during a game, the game unlocks right away, without reloading.

Tip: aim for the centre of the gates to earn perfect gates, and brake before a tight turn rather than clip the frame. Your record ghost flies with you in time trials: beat it!

About the AI

At level 1 the pilots react slowly, drift off the line and miss gates: a child can beat them. At each level they go faster, react sooner and aim better. At level 5 the champion follows near-perfect lines. Granny Turbo is careful, then surprising, The Goat shaves everything, The Rocket is blazing fast but clips a lot, The Purist flies spotless lines, Denis is clumsy.

AI pilot level

  1. BeginnerReacts slowly, drifts off the line and misses gates: a child can beat this pilot.
  2. AmateurFlies cleanly but without hurrying; still clips a frame now and then.
  3. IntermediateA steady pilot who keeps a good pace and aims well.
  4. ExpertFast and precise, brakes just enough before the turns.
  5. MasterThe champion: near-perfect lines, lightning reactions. Never cheats though: same drone, same physics as you.
