How to play
Goal
Ride down mountain trails on an electric mountain bike, string together jumps and tricks, collect maple leaves and unlock twenty destinations, from the Laurentians to the Moon. Dévale can be played alone (the full game, with garage, challenges and records), in a race against the AI, or online against one to three players.
Featured game: free preview and the Winning Hand Pass
Dévale is a Ludo Genie featured game, included with the Winning Hand Pass. The preview is open to everyone, at any time, including during the free trial and the bonus period: the first three levels of the Laurentians and one Extreme freeride run (The Ridge). Everything else stays visible with a golden padlock: the twenty destinations and their levels, the urban downhill and the other runs, Zen mode, level challenges, the garage, photo mode, the secret code and races against the AI or online. The Winning Hand annual Pass opens all of Dévale, with no limits, right away and without reloading. The progress you make in the preview is kept.
Three ways to play
- Solo: the full game with its Play, Challenges, Garage, Records and Help menus. Your progress (games played, unlocked destinations, garage, maple leaves, challenges, records and settings) is saved automatically on this device between visits. In no-trace mode nothing is written: it only lasts for the visit.
- Race against the AI: one to three computer-controlled opponents on the same course as you, with five levels. The AI never cheats: same track, same physics, no hidden speed bonus.
- Online: two to four players. Everyone starts at the same time on the same course, each with their own camera following their bike.
Controls
- Touch: tap the screen to jump; keep your finger down in the air for a backflip; the Turbo and Brake buttons are on screen.
- Keyboard: Space or Up arrow to jump, Right arrow or Shift for the turbo, Left arrow to brake, keys 1 to 5 for tricks in the air, P or Esc to pause, M for sound.
The race
- Before the start, choose the destination (all of them are available in a race, even ones you have not unlocked yet), the length (short 1,500 m, medium 3,000 m or long 5,000 m), the AI level and the number of opponents.
- A 3, 2, 1, GO countdown starts everyone at the same time. Online, it begins as soon as all players are ready.
- There are no lives in a race: after a crash, your bike restarts from the last safe point with a small speed penalty, and the race goes on.
- Bikes never collide. An opponent too far ahead or behind leaves the screen: an indicator on the edge shows their name and the gap in metres, and they reappear when they come back into view.
- Once you cross the finish line you can watch the others finish. The race ends when everyone has finished or left.
Scoring
Your points come from tricks, maple leaves and the game’s other bonuses. The first to finish gets a 50-point bonus. The winner is whoever has the most points in total; in a tie, the first to finish wins. A player who gives up or leaves gets no bonus and loses to any player who finished. Races credit a few maple leaves to your garage, but never change your downhill records.
About the AI
At level 1 the opponent misses jumps, hardly does any tricks and crashes often: a beginner can beat it. At each following level its jump precision, tricks, turbo use and consistency improve. At level 5 it is formidable.
Opponent level
- BeginnerMisses jumps, does few tricks and crashes often: a beginner can beat this rider.
- AmateurStrings a few tricks together, but is still inconsistent.
- IntermediateClean, steady rider who uses the turbo wisely.
- ExpertPrecise jumps, bold tricks and very few mistakes.
- MasterFormidable: perfect lines, a trick on every jump, optimized turbo. Never cheats though: same track, same physics as you.
