Jigsaw Puzzle

A picture painted just for you, cut into real pieces to put together.

Every game paints an original picture (mountains at dusk, northern lights, mosaic, stained glass, seascape…) then cuts it into pieces with tabs and blanks. Put them together in the frame, from 12 to 150 pieces.

How to play

Goal

An original picture is painted for each game, then cut into pieces. Put every piece back in the frame to rebuild the picture.

Controls

  • Piece tray (at the bottom): scroll it with a horizontal swipe; pull a piece upwards to put it on the table, or tap it to send it there.
  • Drag a piece or a group of pieces to move it. Something dropped near its place in the frame snaps into it; dropped against a well-aligned neighbouring piece, it joins it, and the whole then moves as a block.
  • A single piece dropped on the tray goes back into it.
  • Zoom: two-finger pinch, mouse wheel or the + and − buttons; drag the table background to pan; double-click or double-tap for a quick zoom.
  • Sorting: show all the pieces, only the edges or only the middle, and sort them by hue.
  • Preview (eye): shows the complete picture. Hint: puts one piece in its place.

Levels

12, 35, 54, 96, then 150 pieces. On the first two levels, the picture appears faintly in the frame (adjustable in the options) and snapping is more generous.

Tip: start with the four corners and the edges (“Edges” filter), then tackle the most contrasting areas. Sorting by hue groups together the pieces of the sky, the water or the forest.

About the pictures and the cutting

Ten generators paint the pictures on a canvas, with no photographs at all: dusk over the peaks, northern lights, a mosaic of tesserae, stained glass, a seascape at sunset, a starry night and the Milky Way, an autumn maple grove, dunes, a nebula and a mandala. Every picture is unique (fractal noise, midpoint-displacement ridges, Voronoi cells, reflections, grain). The cut follows a slightly irregular grid; each inner edge gets a tab on one side and the matching blank on the other, drawn as Bézier curves of varying proportions: the pieces fit together perfectly and only one solution exists.

Records

The best time is kept for each level, for games finished without hints.

Difficulty levels

  1. Easy12 large pieces, with a faint image in the frame: ideal for getting started.
  2. Medium35 pieces, with a faint image and generous snapping.
  3. Hard54 pieces, no faint image: rely on the picture preview.
  4. Expert96 pieces: sort out the edges, then work by colour zones.
  5. Diabolical150 pieces: the big challenge, for long evenings.
